"Study to shew thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth."
II Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

Winter/Spring 2008 Classes

Faith & Criticism: The Academic Study of the Bible
This class will be led by Ted Lewis,
January 6th thru May 18th at 10:00 am in Room 226 (Covenant).
Fascinating, intriguing and even challenging criticisms have been leveled at the Bible-some out of a genuine thirst for God, others out of a mean-spirited skepticism. This class will explore a variety of these topics such as: The Bible and its Ancient Near Eastern World: What do we do with similar stories to Noah's ark and the flood (e.g. the Epic of Gilgamesh)? What about gods and goddesses in the Bible and its world?; Who is Yahweh and is He really invisible?; and The Scientific Study of the Bible or How does Genesis 1 square with evolution? Don't miss this exciting class!
"Come and See" ~ Evangelism - Jesus Style
Led by Kathy Smith,
January 6th thru March 16th, at 10:00 am in Room 211 (Calvin A).
What did evangelism look like when Jesus did it? How did he train his followers to share his message of salvation? What does it mean to share our faith with the people in our lives? Is evangelism as scary as it seems? We'll look at Jesus' interactions with his disciples and potential followers in the gospels to get answers to these questions. The style of the class will be interactive - we'll be learning CONTENT from Scripture and also a METHOD for studying Scripture together.
Walking With Jesus
Led by Charles Bailey,
January 13th thru May 18th, at 10:00 & 11:15 am in Room 220 (Courtyard).
In this class, we will continue a study of the Gospels. Join us as we study the prophecies of the coming Messiah, the life of Jesus, the theological importance of God becoming flesh, and the significance of the cross and the resurrection.
Kingdom of the Cults
Led by Tom Cox
February 17th through May 4th, join Tom Cox for a fascinating tour of the major religious cults in America. Over twelve weeks, we will examine each one as described in the legendary Walter Martin’s definitive text, "Kingdom of the Cults." Among those to be covered: Mormonism, Christian Science, Jehovah’s Witness, Islam, Scientology, and Buddhism. Each week we will examine the background, basic beliefs and doctrinal differences with Christianity. If you have a friend or loved one or neighbor caught in the grip of a cult, this class should help you in your Christian witness. Class is held at 10:00 and 11:15 am in Room 211 (Calvin B).
