Viewing Our Site

Recently we completed a pretty major redesign of the website. Hopefully you're finding your way around even more easily than before. Here are a few notes about things that might help you to best enjoy and use the site.

Getting Around ...

The site is organized much the same as before except that it is arranged using a few major sections. That and the navigation aids should make finding things a bit easier.

Main Sections of the Site
- About Our Site
- About Our Church
- Current Events at Central
- Worship
- Missions
- Prayer
- Ministries at CPC
(children's, youth, young adult, adult ed, men's, women's, senior's, music, etc)
- Resources on the Site
(links, photos, sermons, newsletters & docs)

You'll notice the new menubars on the left of most pages. These will have links to other pages in the same section as well as some related links. They will also help you get an idea of where you are and what other pages are available on similar topics on this site.

You might also try the site map and keyword search engine when you are looking for something.

At the bottom of each page will be information about that page and the pages above it in the site hierarchy. There is also a link to contact the webmaster and the date that the page was last updated.

Font Size and Readability ...

In our style redesign we've started using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to help control presentation. One limit we've set upon ourselves is to avoid using explicit font size control, whether HTML or CSS. CSS relative control is just too buggy in most browsers and we don't like to force particular sizes upon users whose preferences and systems will vary.

As a result of this limitation and the fact that most browsers default to 12 point fonts, the site will generally come up with a fairly large default font size. You'll probably find that it is more readable if you reduce the default font in your browser. In most browsers, this is just a simple menu choice.

Image Loading ...

While we strive to implement most things in HTML rather than images to save load time, the new design does have a few very small images that help make the new look. Many people surf with image loading off and we fully support this. We do recommend that you load images at least once as you are surfing to get these and the background image.

In General ...

This website has been pretty carefully designed and tested so that it works, is navigable, and is relatively attractive in a variety of browsers including non-graphical and alternative browsers used by the disabled. As part of this process we set limits on what HTML and CSS features we use to avoid introducing problems for some users.

Unfortunately different browsers and different platforms (PC, Mac, Unix) can have some very different ways of handling and presenting even ordinary W3C-standard HTML. We test as thoroughly as possible, but obviously can't test every browser version on every platform, so some problems may occur. If you have any difficulties or suggestions, please report them to us at jw@centralpc.org.
