"Reality: It's Stranger than it Used to Be!"
Central's 6th Annual All-Church Retreat
Memorial Day Weekend ('99)
at Summit Lake Camp
Nearly 400 retreaters are heading to Summit Lake Christian Camp for a weekend
filled with the Holy Spirit as we are challenged by our speaker, enriched by
fellowship, and renewed by His love. Stuart McAllister,
of Ravi Zacharias Ministries
is speaking on the topic of "Postmodernism", a subject that our
Pastors have deemed the most critical influence on Christianity today. The
theme for this year's retreat is "Reality: It's Stranger than it Used to Be!."
This weekend we will gain a better understanding of the postmodern setting
and how biblical Christians might best respond. We will learn how the gospel
speaks a radical word of hope and transformation to our chaotic culture.
Stuart McAllister
(bio)
is the International Director of Leadership Training for
Ravi Zacharias International Ministries. He has spent most of his adult
life evangelizing in communist countries. While part of Operation
Mobilization, he was imprisoned for 40 days for distributing Christian
literature. Undeterred, Stuart continued preaching and developed several
European mobilizations that have sent several thousand team members across
Europe with the message of the gospel. Before coming to the U.S. last year,
he and his family lived for 20 years in Vienna. Stuart and his wife, Mary
have two children.

Stuart McAllister recommends the following book to prepare us for his presentation:
A
Primer on Postmodernism, by Stanley J. Grenz. There are
a few copies in the Church Library or you can order it through
Christian Book Distributors (1-978-977-5000).
Note: The teaching was recorded on audio
tape and copies are available from our Tape Ministry. Order tapes
through the office.
What's this all about, anyhow ?
Fast approaching on Memorial Day Weekend -- May 28-30, 1999 ---
is Central's 6th Annual All-Church Retreat. If you've not yet attended this
retreat, or even if you have, please read on.
Though you may have thought otherwise, it's not just for people who like the
great outdoors, it's not just for families and it's not just for people with
nothing better to do with their holiday weekend. It's for everyone at Central
-- especially you.
It's a chance to be a regular guy or gal with some folks you may not know well,
but who probably know who you are - and it's a chance to very comfortably share
your life - or a part of it - with someone else. It's a chance to be with others
whom you may not be able to see on Sundays for more than just a passing hello - to
eat ice cream together, talk together, or go on a walk together. (or even to go
fishing, boating or swimming together)
There's even time to "do nothing" together! Each of the last few years over
250 people attended the retreats where both our 8:30 and 11:00 services were joined
as one in an invaluable weekend of spiritual growth and friendship building.
Families and individuals alike are strengthened by this time together.
We've also begun planning our Saturday Night Entertainment which allows some of
us to let our hair down and add some humor to the weekend. Afterwards we'll light
the bonfire and roast hot dogs and marshmallows. Who knows... maybe we'll even be
visited by another mystery guest this year. We hope you'll be a part of these
activities as well.
