Explorers' Camp 2005
Published in the News & Views: March 20, 2005
The BIG Question...
Is there Explorers' Camp this Summer?
I would like to thank all of you who have called, prayed and talked
to me about camp this summer. After conversations with many people, I
need to announce there will be no camps this summer. We have begun the
process to hire a full-time Director of Children's Ministry, but we are
only in the beginning stages of the search. During this interim time,
Children's Ministry is not staffed at the level it has been in the past.
With over 250 kids registered for Sunday mornings and at least 6
visitors a week, what we do on Sunday mornings is our first priority. We
are called to be excellent in all that we do. At this time we cannot do
everything we usually do excellently, so we are scaling back, focusing
on Sunday mornings, making it the best hour of a child's week!
As I have wrestled with this very hard decision, God gave me peace
with Leviticus 25:1-4,
"The LORD said to Moses on Mount Sinai, speak to
the Israelites and say to them: When you enter the land I am going to
give you, the land itself must observe a sabbath to the LORD. For six
years sow your fields, and for six years prune your vineyards and gather
their crops. But in the seventh year the land is to have a sabbath of
rest, a sabbath to the LORD . Do not sow your fields or prune your
vineyards."
In the fall, we will begin planning for camp in 2006. For now, let us
enjoy this year of waiting, preparing for the work that God will call us
to do in 2006!
