Who is Regeneration & What is God Saying to Us?

Published in the News & Views: August 28, 2005

During the last so many years, Central has supported the ministry of Regeneration. You've given us money and meeting space. You have prayed for us and loved us and helped us perform the ministry that the Lord has given us in this corner of His kingdom. Most of Central that know about our ministry would tell you that Regeneration is a ministry that helps those who struggle with homosexuality or sexual addiction to change by the power of Jesus Christ. And they would be correct. But recently God has been showing us some new perspectives.

Right before our very eyes, in the media, in education and even in the church, we are seeing God's view of sexuality as he reveals it in His Word become something almost unrecognizable. Not only are we seeing gay marriages, homosexuality in the pulpit or a huge number of sexually addicted Christian men and women, but we are seeing the very destruction of gender itself. The media is so very good at selling the culture a kind of inclusion that calls standing for any kind of truth intolerance. To that end, even evangelical Bible-believing Christians (myself included in my times of weariness) want to say "live and let live," or "I don't believe in it, but whatever..."

I have come to understand that sexuality in any context other than God's revealed word is a direct assault on God's own identity and His glory. Not too long ago we here at Central had a program called "Unveiling Glory." When we assault gender, we directly assault the glory of God. God is revealed in scripture through the complementarities of male and female. The fullness of the mystery of the Christ and His church is reflected in the symbol of husband and wife ~ "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery-but I am talking about Christ and the church." (Ephesians 5:31-32).

Here at Regeneration, we are beginning to hear God telling us to stand for truth as it relates to gender and God's purposes for it. Yes, we still run support groups for sexual addiction and same sex strugglers. Yes, we still do prayer ministry for individuals who want ministry outside of a group. We still sell resource materials around the world and send out one of the best teaching newsletters among ministries of our kind. We will still come to you and teach on holy sexuality and the goodness of God's plan. But more and more I believe that God is leading Regeneration to stand in the face of those who would destroy God's glory as it is revealed in gender. "Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." (Ephesians 6:13) We pray that you will stand with us.
