Mission News: Boxes of Blessings

Published in the News & Views: November 26, 2006

Operation Christmas Child Imagine a human chain of 13 elementary kids, 5 leaders and an awesome bus driver moving shoeboxes from the table in the Concourse into Central's bus. That's exactly what happened on Saturday morning, November 18th, as the team worked to load 232 boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Then the boxes and the team of people headed down the road to Grace Fellowship Church in Timonium. There they unloaded all 232 boxes onto pallet carts, wheeled them into the area where they were prepared for shipment via 18-wheelers to Boone, North Carolina. This team from Central represented M&M Kids' Club and they were participating in their monthly service activity. The children did all this work with minimal adult supervision and they loved it! They saw a video of what would happen to the crates after they left Grace and how the shoeboxes of gifts have blessed the children who got them.

Blessing: One little boy got a box full of only socks. He didn't want to trade his box because his feet had been badly burned and he needed socks to keep infection away. God is so good!

Blessing: Lea lives in a climate that is warm and got a box with a hat, scarf and gloves. The following year when Operation Christmas Child returned Lea was so grateful for this gift. Her father is a fisherman and every morning she goes out with him to help him bring in the fishing lines. With the hat and the scarf, the mornings were not longer chilly. The gloves protected her hands so that she no longer experienced the line tearing into her hands. God provides!

Blessing: A set of twins were the last ones left to receive a box but there was only one box left. So it was decided they would share the contents. When the box was opened, the twins discovered there were two of every item inside! God knows and provides!

The children loved hearing about God's provision. One of them ran up to one of our leaders, wringing her hands with delight and exclaimed, "I just love this stuff!" She spoke for all of us. Thank you Central for the 232 boxes you provided for Operation Christmas Child.
