Work: What Is It?Published in the News & Views: January 28, 2007Paul tells us in Ephesians 2:10 that, "We are God's workmanship, created to do good works that God has prepared in advance for us to do." However, many people have no idea what work God has for them to do. Some workers fall into a job because of opportunity while others end up in a field because someone else told them they would be good in that position. Unfortunately, many workers who took jobs not knowing how God has made them or grown them, do not find lasting job satisfaction. In the January issue of Redeemer Report, Tim Keller gives one answer to the question posed above. He writes, "Work is God's appointed way to care for creation and be useful to others, and you have particular God-given abilities and aptitudes for doing so." True, but how do you find out what particular God-given abilities and aptitudes you have? Career Exploration is a process that uses the results of career inventories and a career coach's expertise to help you focus on those abilities and aptitudes. One way to do that is through Central's Career Coaching ministry. At her office in her home, Sally Gornik administers, scores, and interprets career inventories that examine your career beliefs, preferences in four specific areas, your interest, values, work personality needs, and spiritual giftedness. There is a one-time charge for the cost of the inventories. However, Sally's services are rendered as a ministry to Central Presbyterian Church.
