As we continue to invite everyone to come join the Chancel Choir to sing with us for Easter, I came across a wonderful description of what a church choir does in the life of the church.

"... The choir provides unusual musical experiences that help worshipers understand the transcendence of faith - singing extraordinary music that helps reveal God. One piece may describe glory and beauty. Another may represent the congregation in a prayer. Another may remind us all of a familiar psalm. The repertoire covers broad theology, reminding the church of the advent of the Lord, His life, passion, and resurrection. The choir welcomes the Holy Spirit, and offers thanks at harvest. It represents the congregation in its expression of worship-human response to the revelation of God. It sings of the pure joy of faith. By singing occasionally in other languages, the choir honors both the long tradition of sacred music and the international dimension of the church. The choir's singing brings comfort in sorrow, and peace in pain. It plumbs the depths of our emotions and soars to the heights of the glory of God. Well, at least it tries!"
