ACTC Volunteers!

Published in the News & Views: March 4, 2007

If you are looking for a way to connect with your community as a Christian volunteer, The Assistance Center of Towson Churches (ACTC) will offer you that experience. Members of our participating churches who have served at the Center will testify to the many ways they have been able to personally touch the lives of others who are in crisis. We are able to not only offer the resources that are donated through our churches, but also through our words and deeds, the hope we share as Christians.

If you are interested in this experience, we certainly do need your help! Here are some of the basic facts about being a volunteer at ACTC:

  • We encourage you to work a minimum of 5 hours a month.
  • You need a desire to work with people and possess the ability to listen to the clients' needs and address them.
  • Have the ability to say no when no is the appropriate answer.
  • Attend training sessions to learn agency policies and procedures.
  • Learn a minimal amount of computer skills to call up a client's name in the data base.

The Center is located in the heart of Towson (parking available) at 120 West Pennsylvania Avenue. We are open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am-3:00 pm. (We close on major holidays and use the same snow policy as the Baltimore County School System.) Volunteers will usually work either in the morning from 10:00 to 12:30 pm or in the afternoon from 1:30 to 3:00 pm on the days they volunteer.

The fellowship found by both the volunteers and support staff is a bonus that makes this opportunity of helping others a rewarding experience. If you are looking for a way to expand your Christianity beyond your Church walls, please consider this service.

ACTC Donations

Last year the Center assisted over 11,000 people and distributed more than 253,000 lbs of food. Churches, scout troops, civic organizations and many individuals rallied together to bring that food to ACTC. The Center has been richly blessed by the support of so many. It allowed us the opportunity to reach out and be the hands of Jesus as we cared for those in need. Thank you for your support. Once again we call upon your help in restocking our shelves. Pick up a donation card at the Welcome Center. Please drop off your much appreciated donations at the tables by the water fountains.
