A Light on York RoadPublished in the News & Views: September 2, 2007By Eileen Pohlhaus and Jim McClure Next week we will celebrate what God is doing by dedicating the new construction areas on the front of the building - the new multi-purpose space, the new children's worship space, and the other renovated areas that encompass the courtyard area facing York Road. This is both an exciting milestone in our Share the Vision campaign and a challenge to us now that the space is finished. What will really happen in these spaces and places? How might the kingdom of God be impacted by this little (or not so little!) square of real estate? Many current ministries will use the new expanded space and appreciation for patience during construction goes without saying. In addition, some new ideas can begin to take shape, utilizing the strategic location and visibility within our community. Central can literally become a transparent church to those just outside our new windows! What will our neighbors see when they pass by? Maybe a group of folks seeking more information about the Christian faith through the Alpha program, maybe a group of Women on Wednesday morning studying the Bible, maybe a coffee house or children's outreach, maybe a lunch for those working in the office buildings next door. These are just a few ways that we can see how the new building is not just bricks and steel, but it is a launching pad for serving others and growing in Christ. Whatever it is, the exciting opportunity is that we can both see and be seen. During each of the services next Sunday, we will begin worship in the Sanctuary and continue worship in the new upstairs space called "The Courtyard." A short program of dedication with a "special guest" will be followed by a brief time for fellowship. Be sure to visit the Children's Worship area and Welcome Center downstairs, and the other renovated rooms on the second floor. As we look out onto York Road and beyond, we can begin to let our light shine on the world for Jesus Christ while we fulfill our vision of "moving people toward Christ where we live, work, and play." Don't miss the celebration -
