Fishermen in the New Building

As we look into today's scripture passage (Luke 5:1-11), there are several lessons that pertain to our new building. Today we will go into the building to inscribe on the concrete floor the names of our family and friends whom we are praying for to move one step closer to Christ.

As Jesus taught by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people crowded around Him to listen to the Word of God. Like Jesus, we have had a crowded venue in our existing Sanctuary for a number of years. The new building will provide us an opportunity to expand our ministry as "fishers of men." By inscribing the names of our family and friends on the floor before the carpet is placed, we will symbolically be "putting our net's down deep." Like Peter, we may be discouraged in our attempts at personal evangelism; however, Christ empowered a bountiful catch for the fishermen. When Christ leads us, the Kingdom is glorified by the results of the catch.

As the fishermen were overwhelmed by the catch of so many fish, Christ called them to become "fishers of men." His challenge to them and to us is "Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch men."

We should look excitedly to the future to see what God will do in the lives of those whose names we dedicate on the floor of the new Worship Center today.
