How Children's Ministry Is Building CommunityPublished in the News & Views: May 26, 2002Did you know we have redesigned our Very Exciting Bible School? It is now Explorers' Camp. Our first camp is June 24-28 from 9:30-11:30 am for entering first through third graders and it will be held in friend's backyards. This will allow our children to build friendships with others in their neighborhood. One half of the children at each site (10 in number) will be Central children and the other half will be children from the neighborhood. Our drama team or "site leaders" will travel each day to a different house. The children will remain in the same backyard all week. Our second camp is just for preschoolers and will be held July 8-12 from 9:30-11:30 am. For the first time ever we will have a week of camp for entering three year olds (those who will be three by December 31, 2002) through entering Kindergartners. Call immediately to register because this camp is almost full. One half of the children in each class (10 in number) will be Central children and the other half will be children from "beyond these walls." Both camps will also be set up with the "Amazing Amazon" theme where children will sing songs, hear a story, create fantastic art, play wild games, and eat some crazy Amazon food. We anticipate about 100-110 children for this both weeks of camp. The first two camps are basically our traditional VeBS as you know it with a few little twists. Our week of camp for entering fourth and fifth graders will be exciting with the goal of "Building at the Next Level," based on Ephesians 6:10-19. The week of camp is August 19-23 and each day we will travel to a different location where we will learn to put on the whole armor of God. We will go to Genesee Valley Outdoor Learning Center for training on day 1 from 9:15 am-4:30 pm. The rest of the week will be spent hiking, biking, and swimming from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm.. Each child should bring a backpack which includes a lunch, Bible, paper, and pen. Volunteers are needed who love the outdoors and who want to build relationships with great kids! THESE THREE WEEKS WILL BE CELEBRATED WITH A PICNIC AT WOODBERRY CROSSING ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 24 FROM 10:00 am-3:00 pm. | ||||
