Second Sunday for the World

Published in the News & Views: September 8, 2002

Today your child began a special study called God's Got Stuff to Do! And He Wants Your Help. This year long study is designed to show children how they can have a part in fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). God's desire is to see people from every people group around the world come to know him.

Today your child heard about the six roles in missions. Below is a list of the roles and examples of what that person might do:

  • Pray-er: Prays regularly for un-reached people; prays for specific missionaries, pastors or ministries.
  • Giver: Gives of their time, talents and money to support the work of bringing the Good News to un-reached people.
  • Connector: Teaches missions-focused classes; plans short term missions trips.
  • Welcomer: Hosts an international student, seeking to share Christ with him or her.
  • Sender: Supports a missionary family, sending letter and packages; helps returning missionaries with needs.
  • Goer: Takes short term missions trips; volunteers in shelters; shares Christ with friends and family.

The children all received an assignment that we need you to help with. We asked each child to read News and Views with their family, particularly the articles on Missions and Social Action, and to discuss what roles you individually or as a family have had or could have in missions, both locally and internationally. We welcome your involvement in this study to help your child find a role that is just right for him or her. We are all called to be players in the Great Commission. We can all answer the question, "Which role will I choose?"

We are excited about the opportunity to help your child find a unique role in serving God.

For the praise of his glory,
