Sundays At Central Concert SeriesPublished in the News & Views: September 22, 2002By Betsy Nelson Last year from her perch in the choir loft Carol Corey looked out over the sanctuary. She saw the organ, an enlarged performance space, a large (free) parking lot, and a surrounding community full of people who would welcome the chance to hear good music performed in a relaxed setting, in a welcoming church. At about the same time, Phil Munds sat at his stand in the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and noted that many of his friends and contacts in the Baltimore music community were eager for the chance to play chamber music with their colleagues. Thus began the Sundays At Central program. Sundays At Central is pleased to announce the first concert of the 2002-2003 season. Today, at 4:00 pm, our own Tom Brantigan will climb the bench of the Casavant organ and deliver what promises to be a thrilling performance of the works of Froberger, Bach, Franck, Alain, and Reger. Never heard of 'em? No fear. Tom will introduce each piece and explain why he included them in his thought-provoking program entitled "Free Will and the Law." The Sundays At Central Committee agrees that the only way you can improve on this perfect Sunday outing is to bring friends, enjoy the concert together, and then talk it over at your favorite restaurant. And this is just the beginning. Next month on October 27th, The Monarch Brass Quartet - the group that Phil plays with - will return. They are all fantastic concert artists/soloists and together promise a delightful evening starting at 7:00 pm. Bring lots of friends! The Chris Norman Ensemble is coming in November! We are delighted to host such a world-renowned ensemble on November 17th at 7:00 pm. Chris Norman is hailed as one of the finest flutists of our time. We will be treated to the Ensemble's arrangements of a wide range of musical styles. Don't miss this opportunity to hear a world-class group! For free! Bring everyone you know! We will end the Fall schedule with the Central Choir's Festival of Christmas Brass. This, our traditional Christmas concert, will be on December 15th at 4:00 pm. Once again the audience and choir will participate in a moving recital of the traditional carols and special music in thrilling organ/brass settings. Come early and bring the whole family! | ||||
