Small Group Ministry: TransformationPublished in the News & Views: May 9, 2004
That was Molly Rockafellow's enthusiastic response when she agreed to talk about her small group experience. Molly grew up being dragged to church, which she found sheer torture. Not surprisingly, as an adult she ran as far away from church as she could get and didn't come back for a long time. When she did return, encouraged by a close Christian friend, she found herself at Central just as the congregation was preparing for the 40 Days of Purpose. Molly joined a "40 Days" small group, and her life has never been the same. Everyone else in Molly's group was a Christian, and she was impressed with their acceptance of her, their patience with her questions about the faith, and their knowledge. After just a few short weeks with these loving people, Molly made a decision for Christ. And the past year with her small group has allowed Molly to grow and flourish in her walk with the Lord. They are a close group, she says, who are eager to share. In addition to studying books that relate the Christian faith and scripture to daily life in ways that are very helpful to a new Christian, the group spends time in prayer for one another. They also do something fun together once a month, such as bowling or a Hawaiian luau. Molly says the members of her group have become her closest friends in Baltimore. The Lord has really touched Molly through her small group, and she says she talks about it all the time to anyone who will listen. What a life-altering experience! You, too, can have a life-altering experience like Molly's. Whether you are a seeker, a new believer, or a more mature Christian, becoming part of a small group can really make a difference.
