Sermon Proofing Helper Needed

Published in the News & Views: July 25, 2004

Pulpit Some of you probably know that Central's website has many sermons transcribed and available for you to read and study. At the moment there are over 260 transcripts going back to 1998 and 106 MP3 audio files going back to 2002. This is a great spiritual treasure of Biblical teaching that we make available not only to Central members, but to the world.

The transcripts are great ~ you can read them online, print them for later or to give to a friend, email them to someone, explore the scripture references linked from each, etc. Or you can listen to the MP3's or study from both together. A great many people worldwide come to Central's website just by finding it in search engines. (Over 30% of our site's traffic is to the sermons - that's over 17,000 hits per month! Transcripts alone average 583 hits/day this year).

Central Member Susan McClean has been doing the essential task of proofreading each transcript as they come back from the transcription service. She corrects "Bible words," names, typos, and generally compares it to the MP3 to make sure it is correct. Thanks to Susan we've been able to not only post the transcripts quickly and regularly for the first time, but we've even gotten caught up on a lot of old ones.

Now we need a little help. We're looking for a volunteer (or two) who can help share some of that proofreading load. It's easy to learn and only takes about an hour per sermon. You could help regularly or just every now and then.

So... who will come forward to help in this vital ministry?

(Please contact Jeff Wilkinson (jw@centralpc.org) or Janice Chubski (office@centralpc.org) if you can help.)

6/2004 Update: 3 new volunteers just joined the website team as sermon transcript proof-readers. Welcome and thanks to Barbara Ellingson, Anne Wityk and George Greco. Several others also volunteered, but this should be a large enough team for now. Thanks to all for the great response! ~jeff

5/2005 Update: Our team is a bit smaller now, so we could use one or two more volunteers to help spread the load in this area. ~jeff
