M & M Kids Missions' WeekPublished in the News & Views: August , 2004
Thanks for letting me go on the missions trip to Woodberry Crossing July 19th-22nd with the Missions Minded Kids' Club! I saw God's hand at work in the friendships I made and the way our team worked together to accomplish our goals. We arrived each day at 10:00 am and spent the first few minutes talking about Philippians 2:1-11 and how to be a humble servant like Jesus was. We were supposed to memorize the whole passage, but most of us just memorized a few verses. Mrs. Herman bribed us with gum while Mrs. Henderson played funny games with us to try to help us to remember the words. Becca Z. won the prize for memorizing the most verses (besides Mrs. Henderson who can quote the whole passage). Our main task each day was to prepare a hot meal for the 30 1st - 3rd grade campers from a church in Baltimore City. We were assigned to specific jobs like preparing the meal, washing dishes, cleaning up, taking out the trash, and preparing the snack. The favorite job for each of us was preparing the lunch. No one ever wanted to carry out all of the trash to the dumpster. While some of us prepared lunch, others of us worked on craft projects with the campers or walked down to the barn and fed the horses. We set up a cafeteria line where each of us had a part in serving the hot lunch. I think their favorite meal that we prepared was meatball subs and veggies with ranch dressing or chicken fajitas and carrots. The snack each day was watermelon and cookies. Guess which one of us dropped one half of a watermelon on the floor? After we prepared snack and emptied the trash, we were allowed to swim with the campers in the pool. We had a blast! My favorite parts of the week were: playing with the bunnies and feeding the horses, being with my friends, and swimming in the pool. I loved using the gifts God has given to me to serve others. Can I serve again next year at Woodberry Crossing? Your child, | ||||
