    • The Central Builder: 12/10/2006 (PDF)
      The Central Builder is a new communication that will be coming out regularly during our construction project to pass important information and updates. It will discuss building progress, construction site safety, schedules of construction activities, various changes in facility usage, finances, and anything else that will inform you about the building project.
    • Ground Breaking Dec 10: Ground Breaking Ceremony
      Everyone is invited to attend a Ground Breaking Ceremony for our new building on December 10th, at 11:10 am to 11:25 am on the site of our new Worship Center. This ground breaking represents a continuation of our legacy of faith at Central. We will build upon this legacy as God directs and enables our vision to be accomplished in future years. The new building is a tool to launch ministries and to provide for the building up of the body to do ministry where we live, work, and play. Come celebrate God's faithfulness to Central! (photos)

  • September 18, 2005: Share the Vision Update
    Praises
    • We will have a soils engineer on site during the week of September 19th. They will be doing a combination of test borings and digging holes to look for rock. This has been an unknown question for some time and we are eager to learn how much basement we can cost-effectively dig out.
    • Substantial work has been done on the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing drawings. Work continues to progress on schedule. The Building Committee will be presenting the progress to date during the month of October.
    • Gifts for the new building continue to come in on schedule. We thank God for His faithfulness that we experience through your gifts.
    Prayer Requests
    • Please pray for our current space needs. Particularly, Children's Ministry, as they are overflowing with children at key times on Sunday morning. Please pray for wisdom as we seek to accommodate the growth they are experiencing.
    • As the building footprint is now established, the site engineer has noted that we will need to get a variance from the County. We have learned that it will take at least six weeks to get an appointment with the County. Please pray that we can navigate the bureaucracy in a timely manner.
    • Applying for a variance means new opportunities to meet with local neighborhood associations. Please pray for discernment and wisdom for those that meet with the associations.
  • August 21, 2005: Share the Vision Update
    Praises
    • We had a great first meeting with Henry Lewis, the Construction Manager, Waldon-Scott, the architects, and the Building Committee.
    • The design is moving forward from conceptual drawings to detailed design. We should have a more detailed set of drawings to review by the end of August.
    • We should soon hear from Baltimore County on permission to build the Stevenson Road parking lot. The word is that we have about 2-3 weeks left in the permit review process.
    Prayer Requests
    • As the building footprint is now established, the site engineer has noted that we will need to get a variance from the County.
    • We are still waiting for the soils engineer to examine the ground beneath the new worship space for rock or other poor soil conditions. Please pray that we can get a timely response from the soils engineer.
    • The Session will be discussing several building-related issues over the next month. Please pray, along with the Session, for discernment, wisdom, and vision in these discussions.
  • July 31, 2005: NV: Prayers for the New Building
  • July 17, 2005: Thank you for your prayers as we interviewed for Construction Manager. We interviewed four firms, all of which would have done an outstanding job. The Building Committee has selected Henry H. Lewis Contractors. The Henry H. Lewis Company has almost 40 years of private construction experience and has maintained an outstanding reputation for quality and workmanship. The Building Committee was impressed by the quality of the people that Henry Lewis will have working on our building and felt like they had the strongest team. They will begin to work closely with Ravi and Bill, the architects from Waldon-Scott and the Building Committee to make sure that the building plans and cost estimates that are being developed are sound. Please continue to pray about this working relationship, that in all our dealings Christ would be honored.
  • June 2005: NV: Share the Vision Update
  • May 2005: NV: Share the Vision Update
  • Mar. 2005: The Finance Committee is encouraged by the response to Share the Vision. To date, we have received $651,124 as pledged for this period. The work that is being done is not visible on the surface but be assured much is happening. The Building Committee has hired the architectural firm and are in the process of answering questions and making decisions. Please continue to pray for wisdom and discernment for the Building Committee. Pray also that the permit process with the county will go smoothly. God willing, by the end of the year you may be wishing all the activity was not so visible.
  • Jan. 2005: Information Meetings, the Special Event, Pledges, Celebration Sunday, .... it's all over. Not hardly! Between now and the end of January, all of us can be involved in insuring that our building plans meet Central's needs and vision, that they are consistent with the 3.1 million dollars pledged, and are compatible with our financial needs for ministry.
    • The Building Committee is
      • processing the many good suggestions from the congregation;
      • exploring options that build all the space, defer components not needed in the next several years, and identify critical components where finishing work could be done by the congregation;
      • finalizing a contract with the architect.
      • researching construction management techniques which will provide the best expense and quality control.
    • The financial wizards are
      • exploring ways to minimize interest expense, including loans from the congregation;
      • negotiating a construction loan
      • obtaining a loan guarantee from the Presbytery to the bank to get us the most favorable terms.
    • The Session
      • meets on January 8th for a final review of the financial and building plans with our needs and vision;
      • will be having Informational Meetings on Sunday, January 16th, after each service, to provide the latest plans and gather input;
      • is preparing to have the plans for the building reviewed and adopted at the Annual Congregation Meeting at 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 30th, 2005.
