CPC 2000 Annual Report:
Children's Ministries
Rhonda A. Herman

Our Goal is : Guiding children into a personal relationship with Christ by modeling Christ, faithfully teaching God's revealed Word, and nurturing children in God's love.

Sunday School, Second Sunday For the World, Adventure Club, Children's Worship, Children's Choir, Nursery Care, Special Events all add up to one fantastic ministry for our children and their families. Approximately 100 volunteers staff our regular programs which are attended by 200+ children. The highlights of this year were the addition of the Welcome Center and Second Sunday For the World.

What is Second Sunday For the World? On the second Sunday of each month our three, four, and five year olds meet as one group while our first through fifth graders meet as a second group. Our goal is for all to have a heart for the world that God has created. Each month is focused on a different people group or country. It is extra special when one of our own missionaries is home to help us to present the information and to provide us with resources. The teaching comes from 20+ adult volunteers who help our children pray for and experience another culture during our one hour together. It is like a mini-simulation event each month.

Our Preconfirmation Class is just one example of how we lead children to a deeper understanding of their own faith in Jesus Christ. This class is designed for those children who express interest on their own in participating in the Lord's Supper and/or who want to be baptized.

In June, 145 (25 unchurched) kids participated in Outback Games during a Very Exciting Bible School. We learned how to have the hope of glory because we have Jesus in us. Children ages 4 - 5th grade visited sites such as the Outback, Tasmania, the Mountains, Sydney, and the Great Barrier Reef. It was an awesome adventure with Jesus Christ! The VeBS staff took our program to the Christian Community Center and to Seventh Baptist church where we ministered to their children.

Our Mission's Minded Kids Club (M & M Kid's Club) went on the road as we put our faith into action! We partnered with the Christian Community Center and Seventh Baptist Church where we taught Very Exciting Bible School. Real live missionaries such as Karen Duncan, Carolyn and Andrew Brooks, and M.Y. taught and nurtured us throughout the year. We put on a luncheon with the Missions Committee for the Thompson family, and collected non-perishable items for the Christian Community Center. Many of our kids have mentors from the congregation. In November we had a cook-out for our kids and their families and their mentors at the home of the Taylor's. We are raising up another generation of kids who have a heart for God's World. This club continues to meet the second Saturday of each month for training and discipleship.

Our year came to an end with the Family Christmas Eve Worship Service. All Sunday School children from two year olds through fifth grade sang songs while a multi-generational cast told the story of Jesus' birth. A mitten offering was taken for the Agape Fellowship.
