CPC 2000 Annual Report:
Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC)
You are probably thinking that PNC stands for Pastor Nominating
Committee. It does, but we think of ourselves more as a community than
as a committee: a community of believers that prays together, studies
God's Word together and that seeks to discern God's will for Central
regarding our next senior pastor.
We want to thank you for your support and especially for your prayers
for this very important ministry in the life of Central. It has become
clear to us that our Lord is at work at Central and that He has big
plans for us as a congregation and as individual believers. The
committee has been meeting for several months now but the process really
started a year ago.
Last January the Session began to seek God's will for the future
immediately after we had heard that our former Senior Pastor Scates was
following God's calling to Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas.
The Session realized, and the PNC is experiencing the fact, that we are
doing much more than just searching for a new senior pastor. We are
entering into a new era in service to our Lord and Savior. We believe He
has a plan for Central and He is in the process of revealing that plan
to us. The PNC's mission is to listen for the Lord's leading.
The "search" process, which is built on prayer, began with the church
survey, the church consultation with Dr. Paul Borden, the NEXT Church
Conference and numerous studies, retreats and meetings. The second step
was to form the PNC, with the task of discerning God's leading of
Central. We have been writing what is called the Church Information Form
(CIF) which is essentially a resume for Central Presbyterian Church. In
reality, it is much more than that. The CIF describes what Central
believes, where Central has been, where it is now, and where God is
leading us. It also describes the gifts and talents of the person that
we feel God has for us and describes our expectations for the role that
person will play in the life of Central.
This is very challenging but it was also very exciting because God
opened our eyes to the fact He has already been leading Central in the
direction He wants us to go. He has been doing that through the "search"
process described earlier and through the efforts of the Session and our
Pastors to lead Central. The next steps will be to seek resumes and
proceed with interviews.
Please pray for us and thank you for putting your trust in the
community of the PNC.
