CPC 2002 Annual Report:

Central Presbyterian Church Preschool

Melissa Garvin

Mark 10:14 Central Presbyterian Church Preschool was established to train young children in all areas of their developing lives. Our vision is to draw children and their parents into a growing relationship with the Lord.

The staff uses their God given talents to teach the students, and to help them focus on ways to mature in all areas of their lives. Our program utilizes many different developmentally appropriate techniques to meet the needs of each child and to prepare them for their future education. The curriculum encompasses the spiritual, emotional, physical and academic aspects of a young child's life.

God has blessed the school tremendously. We have grown from 62 in 2001-2002 to 73 children. This year our 2002-2003 structure includes: 2 two-year-old classes (Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Thursday), 2 three-year- old classes (Monday/Wednesday/Friday and Tuesday/Thursday), and 2 four-year-old classes (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday and Monday through Friday). These numbers are an increase in size from 5 classes in 2001-2002.

As a service to our parents, we continue to offer our extended day programs in the afternoon, 11:30-3:00. PAL (Preschoolers At Lunch) meets from 11:30-1:00. ASAP (A Special Afternoon for Preschoolers) meets 11:30-3:00. These programs provide the children extra time to interact and eat lunch with children of different ages. There was one change in our program this year. Due to lower enrollment on Fridays, PAL and ASAP do not meet.

As we look toward next year, we will see a few positive changes to our school. Beginning next year there will be a third threes class offered (Monday/Wednesday/Friday). Central will also add a Pre-Kindergarten. This program will bring a more child centered academic program that will prepare the students for the challenges they will face in Kindergarten.

The majority of the preschool families do not attend Central Presbyterian Church. The parents do show a high interest level and continue to praise the preschool. Many new families have come from the recommendation of our parents. The church has invited the preschool to attend their Children's Ministry activities. Many families joined in on the events. These included Trunk 'n' Treat and the Advent Fair. The commitment level of the preschool to its families is high and full of energy. We continue to plan events that help to bond the preschool families together. These include picnics, holiday programs, ice cream socials, and individual class parties. God has provided the church with an incredible opportunity for ministry.
