CPC 1998 Annual Report:
From the Senior Pastor
Dr. Ronald W. Scates

If we could hook Central Church up to an EKG monitor, what would her heartbeat look like? Another way of putting it would be "If you stripped away all of the buildings, programs, etc. what is at the heart of Central's being?" This past year your Session did "open heart surgery" on Central, and with the help of an outside consultation group from The Navigators Church Discipleship Ministry, determined 11 Core Values that are the very heart and soul of what Central is all about. These are the things we will not negotiate as a body of believers: these are the values we will die for. Most of these values we've always assumed and held here at Central. 1998 marks the year that we decided to stop making assumptions and decided to spell it out. 1999 marks the year that we begin to be very much more intentional about living these values out as who we are as a part of the Body of Christ. Everything we do at Central from now on will be based on these values. A kite can only soar when it's anchored/tethered. These values are our tether. Let's soar into the new millennium!

Here are our core values:

  1. Personal Relationship with Jesus as Savior, Lord, and God
  2. Commitment to the Truth of God's Revealed Word
  3. Worship as the Center of Church Life
  4. The Great Commission - Near and Far in Word and Deed
  5. A Biblical World View that Speaks to Our Culture
  6. Kingdom Vision - We are One Part of the Whole Body of Christ
  7. Growing Mature, Ministering Disciples
  8. A Diverse, Loving Community
  9. The Nurture of Children and Youth
  10. Servanthood & Stewardship Inside and Outside of Central
  11. Prayer

Looks like a very healthy heartbeat to me,
Ron Scates
