About the EPIC Service

At the EPIC service, we seek to grow in a relationship with God through the various ways he's given us to worship him.

epic service

At EPIC, that regularly takes the form of music and singing, prayer, drama, video/multimedia presentations, and teaching. Many weeks, the service also includes interactive components such as responsive prayer, communion, and open mic sharing.

A typical service begins with folks mingling in and around the sanctuary as music plays from a CD.

Worship begins at 11:30 with one or two songs led by the worship team (for a current list of songs, click here). Our worship team tries to keep current songs and trends in their repertoire, while making use of older praise and worship songs and updating classic hymns.

singing in worship

Announcements and a time to meet others around you follow these first few songs. The "Question Of the Week" usually primes the greeting time as a fun way to get conversations started.

A second set of worship music, usually three to four songs, leads up to a time of teaching. The songs are designed to open our hearts to the day's topic and prepare for the teaching, and are often interspersed with prayer.

teaching and preaching with ASL interpreter

The day's teaching is usually shared by one of Central's pastors. Subjects are generally topical (i.e. relationships) or textual (i.e. the parables of Jesus). Sometimes the subject is introduced by a drama, video clip, or special song. (Check out prior sermons and teaching at The Central Pulpit.)

A time of reflection follows, with a way to respond to the day's topic, sometimes simply through song or prayer, other times through a more concrete way such as communion or open mic.

munching and mingling We close in singing, and then exit to the concourse to munch and mingle.

While many Sundays stray from this exact format, it will hopefully give you a feel for what to expect when you visit.

By the way, if you were wondering about the name, EPIC = experiental, participatory, inclusive, communal.
