The EPIC Mission
The Vision: With worship as the hub of our communal
life, the congregation will grow in maturity, quantity and diversity as
we share our gifts, our lives and our Savior with each other and the
community around us.
The mission of EPIC is to create an integrated
worship experience that is faithful to the full gospel of Jesus Christ
in a way that is attractive and relevant.
- Worship:
- The object of worship is constant - the one
true God. That said, it is also important to understand that for true
worship, the form of expression is always changing. While God never
changes, culture does.
Each culture, or each new generation, needs to explore how they can
best express their praise and worship. This will mean using the
language, the musical styles, and communal values that speak to the
heart of the worshippers.
The clearest teaching of Jesus about worship, found in
John 4:21-24,
addresses these issues when Jesus declares, "A time is coming and has
now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and
truth."
- Experience:
- Each week EPIC will be designed to lead
people into an authentic experience of God's power and presence
utilizing a combination of music, scripture, stories, relationships,
drama, teaching, and prayer.
God desires for worship to be an experience that we actively
participate in. True worship engages the whole person: body, soul, mind
and spirit.
- Full Gospel:
- Expressing our worship of God in ways
that are meaningful and relevant to the culture does not mean "watering
down" the gospel, or taking out the uncomfortable elements. That leads
to inauthentic worship because God is not seen clearly or honored for
the reality of his nature. We must take the whole package, just as in
any real relationship.
