Title: Associate Pastor for Discipleship and Equipping Ministries
Purpose:
To provide leadership in ensuring that people experience a coherent process
of spiritual formation in the life of the church. To develop a large, well
prepared core of lay leaders who grow and serve in all ministry areas of
the church.
Accountability:
To the Head of Staff and the Session.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the church in championing the need for excellent equipping ministries.
- Promote and develop small group ministries of the church.
- Work with the Equipping Ministry Team to develop and maintain a
process that will prepare, connect and equip people for ministry
and that will identify and grow new leaders.
- Insure that the data required for successful implementation of
equipping ministry is current and accessible.
- Work with the Equipping Ministry Team, Adult Christian Education Team,
and the Small Group Ministry Team to fulfill the Mission and
Vision of the church.
Other Responsibilities:
- Participate regularly in worship leadership.
- Preach periodically (6-10 times annually).
- Teach within the life of the church.
- Officiate weddings, funerals and baptisms as requested.
- Develop personal spiritual ministry.
- Assume general pastoral duties as assigned by the pastor.
- Supervise several members of church staff.
Relationships:
Meets regularly with the pastor; attends staff meetings; relates to
Presbytery and Session as a continuing member; supervises employees assigned
to this department, works enthusiastically with lay volunteers. Moderates the
Session in absence of Head of Staff.
Evaluation:
The pastor, as head of staff, will conduct annual review. Performance will
be measured in terms of (1) involvement and training of lay people in
ministries, in and outside of the life of the church, (2) personal spiritual
ministry, (3) the general spiritual health and numerical growth of the
programs in this ministry department. The Personnel Committee will annually
review the adequacy of compensation.
