Missions at Central Presbyterian
Phyllis and Pieter DeSmit, Missions Coordinators
The church was commissioned by Jesus Christ to share the good news of the gospel
with all people, whether across the street or around the world. At Central, we take
that seriously. To that end, we have developed partnerships with a broad spectrum of
ministries, from a sister church in
Sao Paolo, Brazil, to inner-city African-American churches in Baltimore, to
missionaries in Southeast Asia working among a people who have
never heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We encourage every member of our congregation
to take seriously their responsibility to be involved in God's plan for spreading His
gospel to all nations.
The Missions activities of Central Presbyterian Church include:
- Systematic, informed and targeted prayer for the world
- Caring for, supporting and communicating with ministries and missionaries in
Baltimore and around the world.
- Advancing the gospel among our adopted Unreached People Group.
- Training and sending short term mission teams, both locally and internationally.
- Our Annual Missions Celebration, - a special week each year to
educate our members about missions.
- Helping people find their place in God's Mission to the world.
There are a number of ways that you can be involved. Some of them are:
- Pray for and write (email or regular mail) to missionaries.
- Participate in a short term missions trip.
- Provide hospitality for missionaries.
- Help teach others, including children, about God's missionary heart.
- Help plan a missions event, from Luncheons to Celebrations.
- Befriend an international student.
- Share the good news of the Gospel with your friends and neighbors.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded; and lo, I am
with you always, to the close of the age. - Matthew 28:19

Get Connected
Central individuals are connected by emails, cell phones, cards and
visiting each other. Central's mission is to go Beyond These Walls. The
Mission Team would like to encourage small groups, circles and
individuals to get connected with a local or national organization or
missionary by email, phone calls, cards or visitation. We have a large
list of potential connections to chose from and want to support you in
getting to know missions and missionaries better. For assistance call
Pat Hutchinson.
Missionary Directories!
Have you ever wondered who Central's missionaries are, what kind of work they
are doing, where they do it, and how you could pray
for them? If so, then you can pick up a FREE copy of the Missions Prayer
Directory at the Welcome Center. It includes a page for each missionary or ministry
which Central supports, photos, information, and specific prayer requests for
this year. (One per family please.) Operation World books, which have information
and prayer requests for countries around the world, are also available for only $5.
