"Lord, I'm Yours" Family Lenten Devotional

Devotional cover For those of you with children, don't miss this 2007 Family Lenten Devotional book, presented to you by our Children's Ministry, God's Big Backyard and written by members of our congregation. This is an excellent resource for you to use in family devotions during Lent. Lent is a good time to try to carve out a few extra minutes before or after a meal to draw the family together in a moment of special "consecration" to God.

Introduction: Lord, I'm Yours

Dear Families:

This year, as a congregation, we are studying Joshua's words to the people, "Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you." Joshua 3:5 (NIV) Consecrate means to set apart something for God's special use. Joshua is telling us that we need to set ourselves apart so that God can use us. We hope this Lenten Devotional will help your family consecrate themselves for God's special use. God has a special purpose for each of our lives. In the church calendar, lent is a period of 40 days (excluding Sundays) beginning on Ash Wednesday and ending at Easter. The 40 days is traditionally a time to turn inward and seek God's face. And in that turning inward we are often led to repentance and a deeper understanding of God's love for us. And as we repent and experience God's love for us, we are set apart for his special use.

This 2007 Lenten Devotional has been written by people of all ages from Central to help you take some time this season to spend time each day reading and reflecting on God's word. It was designed with 1st-5th graders in mind, but please adapt the questions to meet the needs of your family. The Scriptures comes from the New International Readers Version unless otherwise noted. This version was developed to enable early readers to understand God's message. It is often easier for children to read and understand than the NIV.

study We encourage you set aside a special time each day when your family can be together. Begin by reading the Scripture for the day (grab a Bible and take turns each night looking up the verse), read the devotional, then share your answers to the questions and finally end your time praying together. You might even want to put on a worship CD and spend some time praising God together as a family. There are 4-6 readings for each week of Lent.

Peace,
