Dear Central Family,
At the community gathering on July 28, John shared with us his intent to retire at the end of our next fiscal year, which is June 30, 2020. John has been Senior Pastor at Central for nearly 16 years and he has been instrumental in shaping and leading Central in our mission to move people towards Christ and sending them out to serve. We are thankful for his humility and leadership and we know that his influence will continue to make an impact for years to come.
In this season of change, many of us are filled with prayers, hopeful expectation, and curiosity as to what God has in store for our church family. Session has been working with John for some time on his retirement plan and has formed a Transition Team to guide us through this transitional year together. The Transition Team will provide periodic updates to keep you informed as we begin the search process and call of our next senior pastor.
The Presbyterian process requires that we do not begin the search for a new senior pastor until after John’s last day. At that time a Pastoral Nominating Committee (PNC) will be formed from members of the congregation and will be charged with the task to find our next senior pastor.
Over the next 12 months, the Transition Team will be hiring a consultant to implement a Congregation Assessment Tool (CAT). This tool is designed to provide an in-depth look at the experiences, perceptions and aspirations of a church’s congregation. It is an essential step for any church in transition. Our second task over the next year will be the hiring of an interim pastor to shepherd us through the next season in the life of our congregation. This update includes some FAQs specific to the interim hiring process, which is undertaken by the Session. The timeline below gives a brief overview of the milestones we expect to occur in the next year. A team has been formed to care for John and plan his farewell and there will be many opportunities for people to get involved this year as we celebrate John’s service to the Lord and this congregation and wish him well as he retires.
