Phyllis and Pieter became members of Central in 1973 and were active in missions right away. They joined Central’s staff as Missions/Outreach Coordinator in 2003.
In 1986 Phyllis became the 2nd woman to be ordained as a Central elder. Over the years Phyllis has seen Central’s willingness to adapt to change and openness to share with other churches – all to keep the focus on God’s purpose without any need to be territorial. That Central is not a building but a living organism.
Phyllis’s description of serving at Central:
“To be happy in work–this is a gift from God. For people like this have no time to despair over life, because God keeps them so busy with a deep-seated joy.” Eccl. 5:19-20
The theme for Phyllis and Pieter’s next chapter is, “Love Your Neighbor.” As they will not be spending as many days in Towson they hope to be better connected with their neighbors in Monkton.
