The start of a new school year usually brings a lot of transition, preparation, excitement, and a bit of anxiety.  This Fall will carry with it the added challenges of virtual learning, juggling work/family/school obligations, and the safety concerns around a global pandemic.  We are all in the process of learning and living into new rhythms.

In Middle School Ministry, we believe that the safest thing we can do for Middle Schoolers and families is to create a dynamic and meaningful space online for our community to gather.  This Fall, we will be hosting Whirlwind Online, a gathering over Zoom for students and leaders to connect, have fun, and create space to explore thoughts, stories, and practices that can help us grow closer to Jesus.  Access to these online gatherings can be found here on our website.

But with so much of this Fall being lived and experienced in a digital environment, we also feel a need to create safe spaces for Middle Schoolers to gather in-person.  The Whirlwind Gatherings will be an abbreviated Whirlwind (1.5 hours) featuring socially-distanced games, teaching, and small Breakout Groups.  They will happen exclusively outside, will limit the number of participants (20 students, 11 leaders), and will require a number of COVID-19 precautions.  Students will need to sign-up in advance and can only register once a month.  If spaces are available on the day of, sign-ups will open for students to join for an additional gathering that month.

It’s all going to kick-off with a special online game night called The Homentum Event on Friday, September 11.  Over Zoom, students will connect with their friends and Whirlwind leaders, play games, and maybe win some prizes!
