A Word from the Session on the Service of Discernment

From the Session:

“Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—”

On Saturday February 25th, approximately 100 Central folks gathered for our latest step in the Year of Discernment- A Service of Discernment.

The service was a special time where we were invited to create space to listen to God’s word and His speaking to us, individually and corporately.   We had time to reflect on three Bible passages: John 15, Luke 14:16-24, Colossians 1:3-14, through the practice of Lectio Divina.   Throughout the morning we were encouraged to move around the worship center, settling into prayer spaces, reading the collective big dream responses, symbolically lighting candles or contributing to the missional timeline of Central’s history. We concluded our time around the Lord ’s Table.

For a congregation that is used to doing, we have spent a lot of time this year being and reflecting. The time spent during these last couple of months has been fruitful and productive. Already we have seen God unifying our thoughts and laying on many hearts similar concerns.

The information gathering part of the discernment process is nearing the end.  The discernment team will be meeting with the Session the end of March to report on the distillation of all the data.

It will then be time for shaping and forming our future path. While we do not see a change in our our overall vision, we are starting to see a remolding in our strategy of bringing that vision to our community.  We ask that you continue praying during this design stage.

We have confidence and faith that great is God’s faithfulness to Central.

Next Steps:

  • Pray for the Discernment team as they summarize and wrap up their assignment
  • Pray for the Session as they begin designing a plan to live out the collected data.
  • Pray that Central will continue to be unified in our shared vision and strategies for the future.
  • Pray that above all else, Central will glorify God in all that we do.
