Our families and our world need more men who have a passionate love for Jesus, submit their lives to Jesus, and are responsible for their own growth. Of course, this is every bit as true for women, but I want to remind the men, particularly, in this post.
God wants men who are in the game. Since we are beginning football season, imagine God has called the next play and it’s a pass with your number on it. Are you ready to line up and run your route? Or are you are sitting on the sideline with your helmet on the bench next to you?
God calls us into the game.
Ephesians 2:10 tells us: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” “Handiwork” means that God made each of us.
And he made us “in Christ Jesus, for good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” That is, he made us for action. Being in the game.
The biggest part of this is the way we handle ourselves at home and at work. Are you asking God what he has for you to do and then doing it? Are you spending time with Jesus?
It is also important to walk this road with other Christians. There are opportunities to connect deeper with other guys in small groups. (Gather with us at Pizza in the Pavilion Monday, September 16 at 7pm to meet people and get more information. And pizza.)
Listening more carefully to Jesus might mean looking at new ways to serve and bless the people you live near or work with. It might mean serving here at church. Whether you usher, greet, work at Connection Central, the security team, in Children’s ministry, the worship team, the choir, or teach—it’s all a part of living in a way that serves others.
It’s part of being human. It’s part of being a man.
What is Jesus saying to you? What are you going to do about it? There is a play in God’s game plan with your number on it!
