Central’s “Residency” program has been launched with our first resident pastor, Antoine Payne. He may be a familiar name to many of you, because he has been a partner in ministry with Central for years. He is the founding director of Philemon Ministry, and he currently serves as Pastor of Grace Beyond the Walls Church, a church that ministers to ex-offenders and to the community of Collington Square. Antoine recently taught a Racial Reconciliation and Justice course at Central. He will be serving in a variety of ministries at Central over the next year. Pastor Antoine is the husband of Trivia Payne and father of six.
The residency program fills the need to give practical training and ministry support to pastors called to new churches, small churches–any situation where a pastor finds herself or himself a lone staff member facing big challenges. Resident pastors serve on staff for a few hours a week, have specially designed learning experiences, and get a stipend for serving with us.
Here are a few of the things Antoine seeks this year:
- I want to develop a more organizational mindset, thinking and planning more strategically.
- I want to better know, understand, and implement the systems necessary to operating a healthy church.
- I want to learn how to effectively grow the church on the shoulders of volunteers.
On our side, we are delighted that Antoine brings teaching, facilitator, and leadership skills into service with us. And we look forward to a long relationship with Antoine and Grace Beyond the Walls!
