First Fruits Farm: Feeding the Hungry

Meeting the Needs of the Hungry

For those struggling with hunger, this year is especially challenging as the cost of food continues to rise, and SNAP benefits were temporarily curtailed. First Fruits Farm in Freeland, Maryland, continues to provide fresh vegetables to families with food needs in Maryland.

On a hot Saturday in September, 43 volunteers from Central Presbyterian helped harvest 87,000 pounds of potatoes to be distributed in Maryland. It was hard work, but there was joy and laughter in the fields!

Established in 1998 by Rick and Carol Bernstein, First Fruits Farm is a Christian ministry to fight food insecurity by providing fresh, nutritious food for the hungry. All food is distributed free of charge to those who need it.

Central has been a long-time partner with First Fruits Farm.
