On March 11th, 2024, I opened my devotional and read these words: “Let God fling you out… If you select your own spot, you will prove to be an empty seed pod, but if God sows you, you will bring forth fruit.” That was the day I had set aside to pray over the call to move East to serve Central Presbyterian Church. The words freed me to let go and trust God for a new season of ministry. Little did I know what rich soil Central would prove to be! In the past year I’ve discovered deep spiritual roots in this place, growing fruit of all kinds. The booklet in your hands only scratches the surface of all that God is doing among us. Hardly a day goes by when I am not inspired by some new expression of Christ’s kingdom unfolding in our midst. Central–you are amazing!
One reason for our current vitality is the tireless work of our staff team. I would be remiss not to thank the members of that team who recently moved on: Andy, Ray, Kathy, and Jill, we miss you! Yet we’re grateful to God for new teammates who have stepped in this year: Liz Piedramartel, Allie Meagher, and Drew Wagner, welcome!
And what a year it’s been. We gathered for our first “Friendsgiving” all-church banquet. We shared a beautiful service of prayer before the presidential election, renewing our allegiance to Christ and his kingdom. We faced the refugee resettlement crisis with generosity, sending over $100k to World Relief. Our elders worked to articulate a vision of deepening community life, leading to new connection opportunities. And as always, we celebrated milestones, served neighbors, worshiped, prayed and studied the Word. The rhythms of the kingdom continue to anchor our life together.
In the coming season, we share a unique opportunity to bear witness to the hope of Christ in an uncertain time. God has blessed Central abundantly. May we be good seed in the hands of the Sower, planted in the soil of the gospel, growing kingdom fruit!
