Serving with Purpose: Central at First Fruits Farm

25,000 pounds of potatoes in bags ready to be distributed to people in need—that was the proud accomplishment of a group of Central volunteers who spent a day volunteering at First Fruits Farm.

In 1998, Rick and Carol Bernstein established First Fruits Farms in Freeland, MD., about 35 miles north of Central, as a Christian ministry to fight food insecurity by providing fresh, nutritious food for the hungry.

The farm relies on volunteers, and Central people have stepped up over the years. Thanks to Crystal Nwachu and Mairee Pantzer for organizing this event. A group of 31 volunteers from Central—including many children—recently worked together to sort, bag, and stack 10 lb bags of potatoes.

Volunteers are always needed. If interested in the next Central event, join the CCB group by emailing Crystal Nwachu at crystal@centralpc.org. You may also volunteer directly with First Fruits.
