Staff Spotlight: Jesse Baum

Maintaining and Managing Our Building

You may not see Jesse Baum at Central Presbyterian on Sundays, but during the week he is always working to keep our church safe, clean, in good working order, and setting up for all the events that happen throughout the week. He is passionate about preparing the building for the ministers, staff, and members of Central, and Central’s Preschool, as well as organizations that use our building.

Jesse Baum has been working at Central Presbyterian Church for 17 years and plans to retire in 2026. He started at Central, working under Brad Horn’s Facilities Maintenance team alongside Barbara Gayle Hawkins. Currently, he is the only Facilities staff member and has a very full work week. He said he enjoys helping those involved in ministry to do their jobs.

Jesse’s background in restoring antique automobiles prepared him for many of the mechanical problems he helps solve at Central. His office is full of the many tools he uses, and he is always willing to lend a hand. Ellen Wallace, a Deacon and choir member, recounted a recent time when Jesse responded generously with his time to quickly and perfectly hang a frame of photos of choir members in the choir room. “I was so surprised to see it on the wall the next day,” Ellen said. “The choir members were delighted!”

The scripture that guides Jesse in his job at Central is Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

Jesse has been baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. He worshiped at Central Presbyterian Church many years ago while dating his wife Julie. He now lives in Pennsylvania and has found a church in his area, Calvary Chapel Delta. He speaks of being “a member of the family of Christ.” Jesse is a father and a grandfather to 4-year-old Jamison and 2-month-old Sophia.

Jesse enjoys interacting with church members and being part of a loving, caring, and helpful staff.
