For years, the Central community has been a beacon of hope for those in need, faithfully supporting Helping Up Mission (HUM). Through hands-on volunteering and generous donations, we have stood beside men and women battling addiction and homelessness, helping them find hope, healing, and a fresh start. HUM’s comprehensive recovery programs go beyond temporary relief, addressing the root causes of substance abuse and poverty to create lasting transformation.
This month, we are rallying together in a special way to show love to HUM by collecting essential items—bath towels, washcloths, men’s deodorant, and new nail clippers—to support those on their journey to recovery.
Collection Dates: March 16, 23, and 30.
Drop-Off: Sundays during worship or Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
During one of our worship services, we will have a meaningful moment where our community can bring their donations forward and place them in the designated bins—turning small acts of kindness into a powerful display of support.
One of the most uplifting moments of our March focus will be the HUM choir leading us in worship on Sunday, March 23. Their music is sure to inspire and remind us of the incredible work God is doing through HUM. Don’t miss this powerful service!
Become a Prayer Partner in the Spiritual Recovery Program
Beyond meeting physical needs, we have a unique opportunity to uplift participants in HUM’s year-long Spiritual Recovery Program. Peter Belitsos, Judy Summers and Gail Seward met with HUM participants to offer a prayer partner relationship with Central. “We were touched by their desire to have us lift them up to God, and know that our God is pursuing them,” Judy said.
The prayer partner program involves emailing with a HUM participant to pray for their specific needs, acting as a pen-pal who prays. If you are called to join as a prayer partner, walking alongside these courageous individuals as they seek transformation. You can learn more about this at an informational session at Central on Tuesday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Rallo, the spiritual leader at HUM, will share how you can support this vital ministry. A Place of Hope for Women and Children
In January 2022, HUM expanded its mission by opening the Women’s and Children’s Center. Today, approximately 40 women, some with infants, are enrolled in the long-term recovery program, with the capacity to eventually house up to 200 women and children. This center is a testament to the growing impact of HUM, ensuring that families can experience healing and renewal.
Join Us in Making a Difference
By partnering with HUM, we are not just offering help—we are extending hope. Among the many Central members who extend hope by volunteering at HUM are Vernon and Sandy Strawhand, Marty Hansell, Andrea Katz, and Esther Frey. Vernon and Marty tutor once a week, and Vernon has been tutoring for more than 20 years.
Andrea Katz and Esther Frey volunteer at the Women’s and Children’s Center preparing and serving food and helping with the children. Esther said, “We see people changing their lives, and I feel blessed to have a small part of that.” Andrea said, “It’s amazing to look into the eyes of these women as they live a sober life and build their relationship with God. The residents of HUM are leaning into God’s word, embracing his love and guidance to help them on this challenging journey.”
Together, we can stand alongside men and women taking courageous steps toward a brighter future. If you feel called to volunteer, visit Helping Up Mission’s website to explore opportunities to get involved.
Let’s continue to shine God’s love in tangible ways. Thank you for being part of this mission of transformation!
